Deliveroo has become the first delivery platform to roll out Nectar, one of the largest loyalty card programs in the UK*. From today, Nectar members can now collect points when they shop with Sainsbury’s through Deliveroo.

Nectar is the latest to join the growing roster of loyalty programmes available on the app which span grocery, restaurant and retail, as Deliveroo continues to prioritise providing customer experience and value. The integration of loyalty programmes onto Deliveroo means that customers can now earn points when they shop on-demand with selected partners, as they would in a physical store. With 97% of UK shoppers being members of at least one loyalty scheme**, they are an increasingly integral part of consumer shopping habits, with shoppers continually looking to unlock more for their money when they shop.

From today, customers across the UK will be able to link their Nectar and Deliveroo accounts to collect points when they place a Sainsbury’s order for eligible products through Deliveroo. When placing an order via participating stores, customers will now be presented with the option to input the card number that is registered to their Nectar account at checkout. One Nectar point will be collected per £1 spent on eligible Sainsbury’s products purchased through Deliveroo.

With a reach of 24 million members and 500 partners to collect points with, Nectar is well known for providing customers with personalised discounts and deals.  Nectar members can spend points when shopping at Sainsbury’s, Argos, Esso and British Airways. Points can be spent on groceries at Sainsbury’s, flights with British Airways, fuel at Esso and a wide range of rewards with participating partners.

The introduction of the Nectar programme will build on the existing popularity and convenience of ordering Sainsbury’s groceries through the app. The products most popular with Sainsbury’s customers ordering through Deliveroo*** include: Sainsbury’s Strawberries 400g, Sainsbury’s British Semi Skimmed Milk 2.27L (4 pint), Sainsbury’s Fairtrade Bananas x5, demonstrating that customers value the speed and ease of getting essential fresh grocery  items delivered on-demand.

Suzy McClintock, Vice President of New Verticals at Deliveroo, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Nectar, one of the UK’s most valued and far-reaching loyalty schemes, to Deliveroo. This integration is a massive win for our customers, who can now earn points on their Sainsbury’s grocery orders, further establishing Deliveroo as the go-to destination for on-demand convenience and loyalty.”

Sainsbury’s first partnered with Deliveroo in 2021 joining with just under 300 sites. In less than five years, the partnership has quadrupled to now include over 1,000 sites.
