Asda is gearing up for Burns Night this January with a staggering 150,000 packs of haggis products landing in stores from leading producer Simon Howie.

The retailer is set to sell an average of three packs from their haggis range every minute this month. It’s also estimated that more than14,000 packs of mouthwatering haggis bon bons will be sold – that’s 169,200 individual units of the bite-sized snacks – as well as haggis truffles, haggis olives, haggis burger stacks, and a vegetarian option.

Asda is also bringing back the innovative Simon Howie Chocolate Haggis. Proving popular with customers, the chocolate brownie dessert is designed to look like traditional haggis, but packed with fudge and shortbread instead of meat.

Two lines from the supplier – its Original and Vegetarian products – have arrived in Asda’s English stores to mark Burns Night on January 25.

Simon Howie, who founded his Perthshire-based food brand in 1986, said: “This is a huge time of the year for us, as Scots across the country and beyond embrace the very best of traditional Scottish food to celebrate our national poet this Burns Night.

“As a family-run business, we put heart and soul into all our product work, and we’re delighted to share our fantastic haggis range with households not just in Scotland, but further across the UK this January, through our partnership with Asda.

“We expect haggis sales to be up year on year, which reflects how important Asda’s support is to our success. It comes as a huge boost, helping to fuel our ambitions for growth and to feed as many families as we can with our top-quality Scottish food.”

Haggis takes centre-stage on Burns Night thanks to a poem from Robert Burns himself, who honoured the traditional dish in “Address to a Haggis”, calling it the “chieftain o’ the puddin-race” and cementing its place in Scottish culture.

Asda’s Ashley Connolly, Local Buying Manager Scotland, said: “No Burns Night is complete without haggis, and we’re thrilled to have partnered once again with Simon Howie this year for an incredible range of products.

“Available not just in Scotland, but in England too, there’s a haggis option for everyone, from those with traditional tastes to the sweet-toothed among us. Simon Howie and Asda have the haggis covered – over to everyone else for the piping and poetry.”
