Aldi Scotland launches the St Andrew’s Day S-tartan Pack to help Scots prepare for celebrations

More than half of Scots (57%) believe St Andrew’s Day should be celebrated more widely across the country, yet just one in five (21%) plan to mark it this year, according to new research commissioned by Aldi Scotland.

The findings build on research conducted by the discount retailer in 2025, which found that only four in 10 Scots could correctly identify the date of Scotland’s national day. Together, the findings suggest that while Scots are broadly supportive of celebrating St Andrew’s Day more widely, the national holiday has yet to capture the public’s enthusiasm.

Following the summer’s World Cup, prominent Scottish figures have called for St Andrew’s Day to build greater momentum globally, mirroring the popularity of Ireland’s St Patrick’s Day which is celebrated by millions across the world. The research from Aldi has found a modest uplift in recognition, with 13% more likely to celebrate this year compared with the previous years.

Aldi Scotland has long championed the produce, suppliers and traditions that make Scotland such a special place, working with hundreds of Scottish suppliers to bring quality food and drink to shelves across the nation.

This year, to help more people celebrate St Andrew’s Day and discover the customs, food and drink that go with it, Aldi is launching its St Andrew’s Day S-tartan Pack, a light-hearted crash course for anyone who might be marking the occasion properly for the very first time.

Offering a fun and accessible introduction to the traditions, spirit and sense of togetherness that define St Andrew’s Day, the pack makes it easy for everyone to join in. It features a taste of Scotland, with a selection of Scottish food and drink, ceilidh dancing instructions, an introduction to local dialect, insights into the history of St Andrew’s Day, and a recipe for the classic dish of haggis, neeps and tatties.

Tom Brearey, Regional Managing Director at Aldi said: “Scotland has never been short of reasons to celebrate, so it’s a little surprising that our own national day so often passes without much fuss. The good news is you don’t need a kilt, a flawless Gay Gordons or a family recipe handed down through the generations to mark it properly.

“A plate of haggis, neeps and tatties shared with friends, and a round of shortbread is a brilliant place to start, and if that brings a few more people round the table on 30 November, we’ll call it a job well done.”

Aldi makes it affordable to mark the occasion with quality Scottish food and drink, with a typical haggis, neeps and tatties dish costing just £1.38 per person:

  • Haggis: £1.99 (454g)
  • Swede: £0.62
  • Scottish Maris Piper Potatoes: £2.25, 2.5g

Aldi Scotland has created ten limited-edition St Andrew’s Day ‘S-tartan Packs’ for customers to get their hands on. For the chance to receive one, shoppers simply need to register their interest by emailing scottishcompetition@aldi.co.uk or commenting on Aldi Scotland’s Facebook or Instagram post before 20 November 2026.
