Following rapid growth in food-to-go, the Leicester-based brand is bringing its naans and sides to the freezers
Leicester-based brand Tuk In Foods is making its first foray into the frozen aisle with a four-strong range of naans and sides.
The frozen street food range will build on its success in the chilled food-to-go aisle, where sales of its filled naans are up 37.6%[1], by offering fans a convenient option for new occasions.
The new lines – due to hit Sainsbury’s freezers on 27 September – form part of Tuk In Foods’ mission to establish the freezer as a destination for quality Indian cuisine and grow the brand to £10m this year.
The frozen range has two filled naan options, both of which come in a pack of two: a Chicken Tikka Curry in a Naan, and Butter Chicken Curry in a Naan.
Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka have both proven crowd-pleasing flavours in Tuk In Foods’ chilled food-to-go range. The new frozen Butter Chicken Curry in a Naan line wraps up tender butter chicken curry in a soft, seasoned naan bread, while the Chicken Tikka Curry in a Naan offers a frozen take on a British favourite.
The naans are complemented by two sides – Onion Bhajis and Chicken Tikka Samosas –to complete the meal.
With the launch, Tuk In Foods aims to cement the frozen aisle as an increasingly exciting destination for quality, flavour-packed and convenient Indian food. The brand is bringing all the attributes of its chilled food-to-go options – which are high in flavour, low in sugar, and made with kitchen cupboard ingredients – to the freezers.
The frozen range offers the same core proposition as Tuk In Foods’ food-to-go lineup, but targets a different occasion. While food-to-go customers will typically buy a single item at a single moment, the frozen range will encourage multiple purchases.
The longer-life credentials aim to add an extra layer of convenience for shoppers. What’s more, the act of freezing means Tuk In Foods can stick to its ethos of using kitchen cupboard ingredients, rather than relying on artificial additives and preservatives.
“The frozen aisle is fast becoming a hotbed of innovation and excitement – but for too long, Indian food has lagged behind in this area of the store,” said Tuk In Foods founder Thomas Cropper. “With this launch, we want to establish the freezers as a destination for quality, innovative Indian food and bring our much-loved filled naans to a new occasion.”
“For Tuk In Foods, frozen is the next chapter for convenience, not a step away from it. Whether it’s a satisfying work-from-home lunch, or a quick and tasty dinner option, our frozen street food range will bring our brand to more people on more occasions – using our tasty kitchen cupboard ingredients.”
