Following the success of Roaring Meg, a premium blonde beer, in 500ml glass bottles, Springhead, a leading Midlands microbrewer, has obtained a second national listing with Morrisons for ‘The Leveller’.

Described as a dark, smooth, 4.8% beer with a rich aroma and taste of burnt toffee, The Leveller has been a popular cask beer since the early 1990’s. Brewed in the Belgian Trappist style, it is now launched in 500ml bottles (case of 8) and capitalises on renewed consumer enthusiasm and strong growth in the premium bottled beers market.

Managing Director of Springhead Brewery, Helen Teasdale, says: “Consumers seem particularly attracted to those beers from interesting local microbreweries who are using quality English ingredients, no additives, and following traditional methods. Our inclusion in the ongoing and very successful Morrisons multibuy encourages the consumer to pick up and try new bottled beers from the fixture.’’

Springhead Brewery is based in North Nottinghamshire and is a large, modern microbrewery, with a range of beers brewed using traditional methods, and quality, natural English ingredients without any artificial additives.

It began as the smallest brewery in England in 1990, gaining a place in the Guinness Book of Records, with a brew length of just 2.5 brewers barrel’s (about 10 casks for a day’s work) but successful recipes soon led to national prizes and a huge increase in sales. The brewery then moved to larger premises where it expanded to a 10 brewer’s barrel plant, and more recently to 50 brewer’s barrels, making it one of the largest microbreweries in Nottinghamshire. Continued success means that the brewery is on the move again in the early summer to larger premises, where a visitor centre will be opened.
