Consumer insights played a significant role in helping Ginsters to co-create the perfect, speedy lunch solution, especially relevant to the 75% of us who are now working from home and looking for a quick 5-minute lunch. Following many months of research, the Pastry Toastie was heralded as an incremental purchase that people were highly likely to make, alongside their usual savoury pastry buys, with 79% finding it ‘exciting’ and 72% thinking ‘it’s new and different’2
It’s a Toastie that goes into a Toaster!
Going hand in hand with consumer testing, a new study3 by Ginsters revealed some fascinating facts about the nation’s love for the humble toaster, which still retains its title as a household hero. Almost a third of Brits (30%) use theirs 4-6 times a week, and one in three (31%) say it’s the most convenient kitchen appliance they own when it comes to heating food.
The study also uncovered some of the nation’s strangest toaster usage confessions. Among the most unusual items reported were fish fingers and burgers, with one in 10 Londoners (11%) saying they have even used their toaster to heat up spaghetti Bolognese!
Unsurprisingly, many of these creative attempts resulted in disaster, with nearly a third of Brits (29%) admitting to rescuing burnt or overcooked items from the toaster at least once a week, over half (51%) having thrown food away as a result, and almost a quarter (23%) even damaging the toaster by cooking something it wasn’t made to handle.
