- New Express convenience store in Castleford the first of up to 20 to launch across the UK before the end of the year
- The new stores support Asda’s ambition to bring unbeatable value to even more communities nationwide
Today, Asda has kickstarted the latest phase of Express convenience store rollout programme, opening the doors to customers at its brand-new store in Castleford.
The Castleford store is the first of up to 20 new Express stores set to open across the UK before the end of the year, as the retailer sets out to bring unbeatable value to new communities across the UK.
Through this expansion, Asda is strengthening its presence in high-footfall urban areas, residential neighbourhoods, and transport hubs – locations where Asda has traditionally had less of a footprint, but where demand for convenience and great value continues to grow.
Located on Holywell Lane, the new Asda Express Castleford store has been transformed from a former pub into a modern convenience store, bringing Asda’s low prices and wide product range to the local community.
The new store offers over 3,000 branded and own-label products, covering every base from quick ‘top-up’ shop to lunch on the go.
Open daily between 6am – 11pm, the Castleford store will offer a comprehensive range of fresh, ambient and chilled groceries, as well as a broad selection of beers, wines and spirits.
Customers will also benefit from a variety of services, including Costa Coffee Machine, an ATM machine, and Amazon collections & returns. To make shopping even more convenient, on-demand food delivery options such as Uber Eats, Just Eat and Deliveroo will also be available.
Each new Express store will also feature electronic shelf edge labels (ESLs) from day one, helping to simplify operations for colleagues and boost customer experience.
Commenting on the Castleford store opening, Joseph Sutton, Vice President Asda Express, foodservice and fuel, said: “We’re delighted to have opened the doors today in Castleford, marking the start of our Express store rollout as we bring Asda’s unbeatable value to new communities across the UK.”
“From top-up essentials to convenient food on the go options, we’re excited to welcome new customers and offer outstanding value.”
Since first launching into convenience in 2022, Asda has rapidly grown its Express footprint. Almost 500 Asda Express stores are expected to be open by the end of the year, with a strong pipeline of new stores also planned for 2026 as part of the retailer’s commitment to offer great choice and prices that consistently beat competitor convenience stores.
