Aldi has teamed up with food waste expert, Kate Hall (@thefullfreezer), to help the nation cut BBQ waste and make their money go further this summer.
It comes as new research from Aldi shows that Brits routinely over-cater when hosting BBQs, with an average of £15 worth of food going to waste at every gathering.
The UK’s fourth-largest supermarket has partnered with Kate to share practical tips to freeze and reuse some of the most commonly binned BBQ items, with dips, salad, coleslaw, burgers and hot dogs topping the list.
Luke Emery, National Sustainability Director at Aldi UK, said: “Nothing beats coming together with family and friends to enjoy a good summer BBQ, but it’s often difficult to know what to do when faced with a fridge full of leftovers.
“At Aldi, we’re committed to helping our shoppers make the most of their groceries and reducing food waste wherever we can. That’s why we’re teaming back up with Kate to share helpful tips and advice to save your leftovers and make your money go a little bit further this BBQ season.”
Commenting on the partnership, food waste expert Kate Hall said: “One of the best bits about a BBQ is all the choice – from the burgers and hot dogs on the grill, to all the sides, dips and snacks. But it can also mean we often prep way more than we need, most of which usually ends up in the bin.
“Just like so much of what we buy, most of our BBQ essentials can be frozen and saved for later – either for your next BBQ or turned into a different meal entirely – saving food from going to waste and saving you money in the process.”
To help educate and inspire shoppers, Aldi has worked with Kate to share five top tips on how to freeze and reuse the most wasted BBQ foods.
Earlier this year, Aldi also worked with Kate to encourage Brits to ‘press pause’ on their food, highlighting the simple steps shoppers can take to freeze more and waste less at home.
