Kite Packaging is an employee-owned business and one of the UK’s leading packaging suppliers. From everyday essentials to fully bespoke solutions, we help companies of all sizes protect their products with high-quality, sustainable packaging. Whether you’re ordering off the shelf or working with our experts to design something unique, we’re here to make packaging simple, effective, and better for the environment.

Gavin Ashe, Managing Director at Kite Packaging spoke to Grocery Trader.

How would you explain the Kite Packaging culture and how does it assist your clients’ requirements?

Kite is an employee share-owned business, which means everyone has a stake in our success. We’re all pulling in the same direction, supporting each other and driving the company forward together. That shared commitment naturally extends to our customers, too. It creates a genuine sense of partnership and responsibility to deliver the best possible service and solutions for their needs.

Do you have direct contact with customers, and get involved developing solutions?

Absolutely. There are two sides of Kite Packaging: our off-the-shelf ecommerce fulfilment side and our bespoke solutions side. We have direct contact with customers in both areas.

On the ecommerce side, we’re always here to offer tailored advice on which products work best for their business. We take feedback seriously and are more than happy to introduce new products if there’s anything in particular that customers want.

The bespoke side of our business is where we work really closely with customers to develop customised solutions designed specifically for their requirements.

Our R.A.D (short for Research. Analysis. Development) team has an overlap between these two areas of the business. They come up with fresh ideas and create new solutions for tricky packaging problems that don’t have an answer yet. They’re always innovating and staying one step ahead to support whatever our customers need next.

What new services/solutions are you offering for 2025?

We have some exciting new additions to our range this year.

Our recently launched heavy-duty shelves are perfect for offices, warehouses, workshops, factories – basically anywhere you need to store and access heavier items with ease. They can handle between 175 and 600kg per shelf and are long-lasting.

We’ve also expanded our eco range with more paper-based products. These include Kite enviro mailers, anti-slip pallet sheets, and air cushions. We’ll continue bringing out products like these throughout the year as it means even more ways for you to pack responsibly without compromising on performance.

What are the biggest challenges facing Kite Packaging and your industry?

One of the biggest challenges for us and the industry as a whole is the growing demand for more sustainable packaging. Consumers are much more eco-conscious now, so there’s a real push to cut down on waste, reduce plastic, and roll out more recyclable options.

At the same time, we’re navigating new regulations like Extended Producer Responsibility, which is reshaping how packaging needs to be designed and managed.

It definitely keeps us on our toes, but it’s also a great opportunity to innovate and lead the way in creating packaging that’s better for the planet and still does the job brilliantly for our customers.

Do you cover the whole of the UK?

We do. Our ecommerce platform makes it easy to order off-the-shelf packaging wherever you are, while our regional distribution centres handle bespoke solutions nationwide. So, no matter where you’re based, you can count on us to deliver the products and services you need.
