Innovative Logistics from Christian Salvesen
Distribution represents a high percentage of costs for most businesses. How a company transports, stores and delivers product to customers is key to controlling costs, safeguarding margin and increasing profitability.
Christian Salvesen's Temperature Controlled Business Unit (TCBU), a market leader in frozen, chilled and ambient food logistics, is committed to streamlining customers' supply chains, to improve efficiency, drive down costs and reduce environmental impact.
"Along with continual reduction in order lead times and the drive towards stockless environments, the reduction of carbon footprint has become a major focus for retailers," confirms Andrew Sibree, Business Development Director for Salvesen's TCBU & Support Services UK. "Our industry is waking up to the global impact of climate change and the need to work smarter and more efficiently; Christian Salvesen is leading the way, with the achievement of the ISO 9001:2000 quality certification, which reflects the company's commitment to quality, customer service and continual improvement."
According to Sibree, the focus is no longer simply on moving products from A to B, but is increasingly on product life cycle and the provision of services such as reverse logistics, recycling, asset management and handling returnable packaging to support customers in reducing their carbon footprint. Christian Salvesen offers specialist logistics services across the spectrum for chill, ambient and frozen foods, providing fully integrated warehouse and distribution solutions designed to cut costs and decrease impact on the environment.
The latest innovation is the introduction of cutting edge carbon management technology, enabling a detailed and dynamic real time analysis of the carbon footprint of a customer's business and its extended supply chain.
"Using the unique Carbon View system, exclusive to Christian Salvesen in the UK, we can deliver continued improvements by finding carbon reductions in everyday operations, maximising profit whilst minimising carbon output," Andrew Sibree explains.
Recent new business wins for Christian Salvesen include the contract for the UK frozen food business of Central Foods, a dedicated supplier of frozen foods to the food service industry, with more routes to market than any other supplier in the frozen delivered wholesale sector; and a shared user contract with leading Pizza franchise businesses Perfect Pizza and Papa Johns, to provide multi-temperature distribution services nationwide.
En Route International, a supplier of premium quality bakery products to some of the world's leading airline operators, has also extended its contract with Christian Salvesen's Temperature Controlled Business Unit (TCBU) to encompass a total supply chain solution.
