Domino moves into thermal transfer overprinting with the preview of the V-Series plus range at total 2007

Domino UK Ltd has marked the introduction of its new thermal transfer overprinting (TTO) offering, the V-Series plus range, with the global preview of its first premium TTO printer, the V200+, at the Total Processing & Packaging 2007 exhibition in Birmingham.

Achieving a print resolution of 300dpi, the V200+ is capable of applying high quality variable data including text, real time clocks, bar codes, Data Matrix codes as well as logos onto a wide range of flexible packaging materials, including films and paper. Designed for use in both continuous and intermittent modes, the V200+ can be mounted on a variety of packaging machines including vertical or horizontal 'form, fill and seal' machines and label applicators, making it suitable for many key food, pharmaceutical, health and beauty applications.

Delivering a new concept in TTO, the V200+ incorporates the intelligence of a standard controller within the printer unit, resulting in improved connectivity to any existing user interface. As a result, one or more V200+ printers can be controlled via one optional, easy to use colour touch screen or any networked PCs or OEM packaging machine user interface running a web browser.

"The debut of the versatile V200+ printer is a significant milestone in the introduction of TTO technology to our already comprehensive coding and marking portfolio, consisting of ink jet, laser and print & apply applications.

The features of this new printer fully support the objectives of our recently introduced 'plus' programme and centre around greater functionality and productivity enhancements to improve the overall effectiveness of manufacturing operations through increased productivity, flexibility and quality," explains Jon Cossins, TTO Product Manager at Domino.

The V200+ includes simple 'Dancing Arm' technology, maintaining ribbon tension between new and used ribbon spools which results in less maintenance, increased uptime and higher production speeds.

The printers' Patented Variable Ribbon Economy feature, which allows the imprint on the ribbon to be considerably less than the actual print size achieved on the product, offers ribbon savings of up to 60%. This, combined with the unique ribbon auto-retraction system which ensures less than 1mm gap between the prints on the ribbon roll, provides huge consumable cost-savings by minimising ribbon waste. In addition, the V200+ offers the highest capacity ribbon rolls currently available - up to 1,400 metres - resulting in reduced changeover and increased uptime.

Concludes Jon Cossins: "Strategically, this is a very exciting time for us and our customers as the V200+ excels through its simple design, unique ribbon saving technology and reliability and as a result supports lean manufacturing processes. The V200+ will be launched with a full set of standard brackets and accessories, suitable for all our key markets and applications. As with all our product ranges, we are currently developing further product variants which will be introduced to the market at a later stage."

Complementing the launch of the V-Series plus range, Domino will also introduce a comprehensive sales and support package - TotalCare plus - specifically designed to suit the varying needs of its TTO customers. The TotalCare plus modular offering covers a full range of support services, including technical support, training, servicing and warranties, consumables and after sales products.
