Multi-million pound investment in new technology to drive growth for Home Delivery Network Limited

Home Delivery Network Limited has announced a multi-million pound investment in leading edge mobile computing technology which will set a new benchmark for the express delivery industry. 4,850 Hand Held Terminals will be deployed to Home Delivery Network drivers and depot staff over a three month period to enable 'real time' track and trace from the retailer, to the depot, the driver and ultimately, delivery to the customer. Leading software integration company Jade will be supplying bespoke software to support the Intermec CN3 Hand Held Terminals. Benefits from the investment for clients include 'real time' data transfer, which will give clients timed tracking information at the touch of the button and a more reliable, visible service in time for the Christmas peak. Following implementation, Home Delivery Network intends to further develop the scope of the technology available to their customers. This will include full utilisation of the Hand Held Terminal's in-built advanced functions, including SATNAV, image capture, alert messaging, voice and data communications and Management Information Systems capabilities. Home Delivery Network Managing Director Walter Blackwood said: "Investment in this new technology will enable us to communicate with key operators remotely, and offer a unique 'real time' tracking facility for our clients. No other delivery company can offer this kind of functionality through their Hand Held Terminals." The introduction of the Hand Held Terminals is now underway, starting with a full training programme for users. The first region was set to 'go live' at the end of July. Home Delivery Network's 62 depots and 3,500 staff will all be using this new technology by the end of September.
