Fantastic fundraising for National Doughnut Week 2007

Congratulations to craft bakers across the UK who pulled out all the stops for this year's National Doughnut Week. With more than 700 outlets involved in the 2007 event, now in its fifteenth year, funds raised for The Children's Trust are expected to top £35,000.

Christopher Freeman, proprietor of Dunn's Bakery and founder of the event said: "Bakers across the UK deserve a huge pat on the back - since the first National Doughnut Week in 1992, we have raised a phenomenal £580,000 for charity. Now achieving nationwide recognition, the event also attracts celebrity support with names such as Ainsley Harriott and Brian Turner getting involved.

"Since the outset sole sponsor BakeMark UK has been a key part of the success, both helping bakers with marketing support and donating free doughnut concentrate - enough for each baker to make around 900 doughnuts!"

Liz Haigh Reeve, fundraising director at The Children's Trust, said: "Every single baker taking part can really make a difference, no matter how large or small their contribution. The funds bakers raise go directly towards providing care, education and therapy for children with multiple disabilities and complex health needs and your support during National Doughnut Week will really make a difference to our children's lives. Thank you for all your hard work and we look forward to a successful 2008."

Kim Cowley, sales director for Warings Bakery, Reading, said: "National Doughnut Week is all about raising money for The Children's Trust and having fun at the same time - with the added benefit of raising our profile in the local community. We run a competition with our local radio station that always generates huge support from staff and customers. We'd recommend to all bakers that they get involved."
