huntapacUnion Industries, the market leading manufacturer of the Matadoor range of Hi-Speed Doors, is helping keep the UK’s ‘5-a-day’ moving at vegetable growers, Huntapac Produce Ltd in Lancashire.

Earlier this year the Leeds based company installed another Bulldoor and three of its five-metre-high Ramdoors to compliment the four Bulldoors that have been in operation on site for several years. Union’s doors welcome the arrival of parsnips and carrots on the Huntapac site before they are washed, cooled, graded and packed.

The company, based in Tarleton on the fertile Lancashire plains between Preston and Southport, originally supplied the local fruit and vegetable markets in Lancashire & Yorkshire, has grown significantly to include a number of the major supermarkets among its customers and now specialise in the growing, packing and distribution of a variety of organic and conventional root vegetables, brassicas and salads.

Located at Huntapac’s main Intake Bay areas, the fast-acting operation of the Ramdoors and Bulldoors support the strict hygiene regulations enforced by the company in addition to providing the added benefit of helping keep the elements out of the Packhouse building.

Huntapac’s main processing area is staffed by 340 of the company’s 450 employees who handle 2,500 tonnes of vegetables every week. Union’s doors help to maintain certain desired temperatures in the large production area which provides a consistent and comfortable working environment for employees.

Manufactured as part of the Matadoor range of Hi-Speed Roller Doors, the Ramdoors and Bulldoors feature Union’s infamous ‘Crash-Out’ facility, which ensure the doors remain operable if hit by a vehicle. Common to all doors in the Matadoor Range, they are supplied as standard with fire retardant and anti-static door blades which are beneficial features for all working environments.

Warren Hunter, Managing Director of Huntapac Produce Ltd, said: “Hygiene is of the utmost priority when handling food and with so many deliveries into the Packhouse, Union’s doors play an important role in protecting the facility from the outside world.”

“Their quick operation and low-maintenance requirements means there is minimal disruption to vegetable deliveries, which in turn ensures maintained productivity from our workforce. I am also pleased with the added advantage with the doors of helping to maintain constant temperatures, which is a real benefit to our employees who work in that area.”

Neil Irwin, Union Industries’ Technical Sales Engineer, said: “Loading Bay hygiene is a key issue for the food processing and manufacturing industry. Huntapac Produce Ltd has applied the effective operation of the Ramdoors and Bulldoors to meet the strict regulations they have to meet.

“The company is also realising the side benefits that come from any Union door installation including supporting productivity. Ensuring consistent logistics is a major requirement for a large number of our customers who utilise the Matadoor Range of Hi-Speed Doors for their reliability and quality of design.”
