uniontescoteeesportUnion Industries, the market-leading manufacturer of the Matadoor range of Hi-Speed Doors, has completed yet another prestigious project, this time at the new Tesco Import Centre in the North East.

The Leeds-based firm has completed the installation of two Bulldoors and also a heavy duty Ramdoor at the facility, which is located in Teesport, Middlesbrough.

The internal, 3.0 metre wide by 5.0 metre high Bulldoors each feature a bespoke designed steel-braced, free-standing frame to provide lateral support for the doors.

Unlike most other industrial doors, Union’s Matadoor range do not hang from the wall structure, whether it be brick, breeze or steelwork, with the majority of the weight being supported by the floor. Consequently, Union doors only require high level structure to tie into to give their doors some form of lateral support.

The additional bespoke steel-braced frameworks allows for installations in areas where there is no supporting structure for the doors – in the case of the Tesco project at Teesport, up against a non-load bearing internal fence inside the large new warehouse where the Bulldoors provide controlled access to one of the centres storage areas.

Union’s 2.8 metre wide by 5.0 metre high Ramdoor has been installed on the inside of a high-use external opening to help support environmental control. The door’s fast-operating speed virtually eradicates the opportunity for the ingress of cold air, rain, dirt, dust, insects and vermin.

The Ramdoor and the Bulldoors feature Union’s industry-leading ‘Crash-Out’ facility, which allow the doors to remain operable even if hit by a vehicle. Common to all doors in the Matadoor Range, the doors are supplied, as standard, with fire retardant and anti-static door blades which are essential features in all working environments.

Alan Hirst, Sales Director at Union Industries, said: “Our years of experience in the door industry and understanding the needs of our clients has allowed us to overcome the challenge of installing Hi-Speed Doors against non-load bearing structures and partition walls. It is important for our customers to understand our capabilities for the Matadoor range and this also demonstrates the expertise and skills of our engineers and designers.

“This is a very prestigious project and we are pleased that Union’s doors play an important role for Tesco at its new distribution centre.”
