Brand forms part of Unilever’s commitment to a more sustainable future

Unilever is launching its newest personal care brand in 20 years with Love Beauty and Planet. Inspired by Unilever’s Sustainable Living Plan, the revolutionary new beauty brand, featuring six hair and skincare product ranges, has sustainability at its heart and is designed to meet rising demand from consumers who are looking for more environmentally-responsible products.

With ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients, vegan-friendly formulations and bottles that are 100% recycled and recyclable, Love Beauty and Planet is designed to help consumers give a little bit of love back to the planet, without compromising on beauty boosting results. Allowing them to both look good and feel good.

Love Beauty and Planet has given careful thought to its ingredients and packaging throughout the entire product cycle to reduce its environmental impact. The range of hair, face and body care products come in covetable variants such as Murumuru Butter & Rose, Coconut Water & Mimosa Flower and Coconut Oil & Ylang Ylang.

With sustainability becoming an increasingly dominant influence over UK consumers, more people care about their impact on the environment and the ingredients in the products they purchase. The new beauty brand seeks to target consumers who currently shop the natural beauty fixtures and specialist shops, in a bid to convert them to the grocery and high street channels, and drive penetration of more natural beauty products.

Love Beauty and Planet will always be transparent and open about its impact on the planet. As part of that commitment, the brand will not only disclose its annual carbon footprint annually but work towards a goal to reduce its carbon footprint by 20% by 2020.

To remain accountable for its carbon emissions, Love Beauty and Planet will put a tax on the carbon the brand emits while making its products – contributing to a Carbon Tax Fund. This fund will be used to support programmes that help to reduce carbon emissions and landfill waste, all aimed at reducing impact and creating a positive change. Stay tuned for updates!

Chris Barron, Vice President of Beauty & Personal Care, Unilever UK and Ireland, comments: “Love Beauty and Planet reflects our passion at Unilever to enable everyone to live more sustainably and consciously by highlighting the simple steps we can all take to help make a better future for our planet. We have never been more aware of the need to be more responsible in the choices we make, even for something as simple as which shampoo we choose to use, so we are delighted to have embarked on this exciting journey. I believe that together, we truly can help make a genuine impact, whilst making the world a more beautiful place.”

All products boast bold, colourful colourways to ensure optimum stand-out on shelf, and even feature easy-peel labels to ensure they can be removed in the recycling process.

RRPs range from £5.99 – £9.99.

LOVE BEAUTY AND PLANET’S HOLISTIC PRODUCT JOURNEY

Beauty and its environmental impact are inseparable, so Love Beauty and Planet decided to do things a little differently. The brand has weighed its efforts and passion with one goal in mind – to make consumers look good and give a little love to the planet. Here’s how:

Outstanding product benefits

The range comprises hair, face and body treatments in six unique collections, each infused with signature natural ingredients. From volumising to smoothing and moisturising to refreshing, there are options for every hair and skin need and desired benefit.

Scents infused with an ethically-sourced oil or extract

Each fragrance is an artisanal blend, carefully crafted to highlight an ethically sourced essential oil or absolute, like Moroccan Mimosa flower, Bulgarian Rose and Ylang Ylang from Moheli. These ingredients are obtained through responsible sourcing programmes, which help support the ecosystems and livelihoods of the farmers and communities who grow them, through partnering with local leaders and NGO’s to support projects that improve the community through agriculture, education, health and nutrition.

Natural wherever possible

Natural or plant-based ingredients are utilised wherever possible, only using non-natural alternatives if they are essential to product quality or performance.

100% vegan!

All products are suitable for vegans and certified independently by The European Vegetarian Union (EVU), the initiator of the V-Label[1]. Every single product in the range has this certification.

Easy peel labels to make recycling even easier

Special adhesive is used to ensure labels separate cleanly from the bottle during the recycling process to help ensure the bottles get a second life.

100% recycled bottles and jars

Every one of the bottles is made from 100% recycled plastic and is 100% recyclable. Up next are the caps, which will be made from recycled plastic too.

Counting footprints with honesty

Love Beauty and Planet will always be transparent and open about its impact on the planet. As part of that commitment, the brand will not only disclose its annual carbon footprint annually, but work towards a goal to reduce its carbon footprint by 20% by 2020.
