panzers-deli-counterAs the npower Ashes Series arrived at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, local businesses enjoyed a welcome boost from the visiting fans. Panzer’s, a delicatessen and greengrocers in St John’s Wood, London, sat in the shadows of Lord’s and was set for a bumper few days when the second test started on Thursday 16 July.

Panzer’s, which was established over 50 years ago and employs 30 staff, is a firm favourite with cricket fans thanks to its mouth-watering deli counter featuring cheeses and meats from all over the world.

As part of its role as title sponsor, npower is highlighting local businesses such as Panzer’s that are set to get a boost from the Ashes Series.

David Saunders, manager of Panzer’s, comments: “As we are positioned so close to Lord’s, we benefit hugely from cricket fans wanting something to eat. We get very busy when there is a test match on and particularly when the npower Ashes Series is in town.”

In the case of Panzer’s, not only do fans benefit from being able to dash out of the ground and pick up some lunch, but the business itself benefits from the increase in trade.”

As part of its support of small businesses, npower conducted a free energy audit at Panzer’s, to show where cost and carbon savings could be made.

The results of the audit showed that with a small investment in energy efficiency measures, Panzer’s could save over £3600 a year on its energy bills. In fact, just by replacing the existing lighting with energy efficient or lower wattage versions, the company could save over £2200.

Julia Lynch-Williams continues: “Our audit also revealed Panzer’s could save over £1400 a year by implementing free energy efficiency measures such as defrosting the six chest freezers on site and turning off the two redundant lights above a refrigerated cabinet.

“In addition to the cost savings, the audit also highlighted that the company could save 6.3 tonnes of CO2 a year with no investment and 16 tonnes by spending a small amount of money.”

Keeping costs low is always key in business decisions, so it is great to be able to see how easily we can cut our energy costs.”
