Shropshire-based The Needham Group, which comprises Needham Coding, Needham Coding Ireland, Needham Coding Distribution and Needham Inks, has announced 25% growth over the past 12 months. It attributes the success to investment in a series of exciting initiatives during 2017 which are designed to provide the springboard to further significant expansion.

• Leading coding and marking equipment specialist, Needham Coding launched its first-ever own brand range of high performance continuous ink jet (CIJ) printers. The next generation, non-contact ‘N’ series represented a first for the company which has built an unrivalled reputation as a leading distributor of coding and marking equipment. The user-friendly, low maintenance ‘N’ series of CIJ inkjet printers offer small and large character printing from 0.6mm up to 19mm.
Providing major cost, performance and environmental benefits, the ‘N’ series boasts a Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) of 40,000 operating hours and is designed for harsh wet and dry applications across a wide range of industries, including food & beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, DIY and personal care / cosmetics. Ideal for global coding and marking applications, the compact ‘N’ series uses multinational character sets, featuring multiple languages and Unicode character printing. The printers accurately and reliably reproduce a wide range of fonts such as bar codes, batch numbers and best before, sell-by and expiration dates, as well as other logos and graphics, directly onto uneven or flexible substrates like glass, plastics, paper, metal and rubber.
• The Needham Group invested in excess of £550,000 to establish Needham Coding Distribution Limited for the worldwide distribution of the ‘N’ CIJ series. The company purchased an additional 10,000 square metres of office space on Waymills Industrial Estate in Whitchurch, where it bought its current premises in 2012.
• The Needham Group merged with long-standing Irish distributor Advanced Coding Solutions (ACS) to create Needham Coding Ireland Limited. Conveniently located in Mullingar in Co Westmeath, the team from ACS moved across to the new business with Bob Powles continuing as Managing Director. The company is reporting a good first six months’ trading with several new appointments and is on target to achieve 25% growth.
• Needham Inks continues to use its in-house R&D expertise to further develop digital ink technology. Increasing demand for high volume, wide format printing has led the company to manufacture a range of high performance digital inks, including aqueous inks which are designed for all major print head brands. It is estimated that these can help reduce printing costs by up to 50% for printing companies, when compared to OEM fluids Aled Ellis, Managing Director at The Needham Group comments: “It has been another strong year for The Needham Group.
