Twenty six teams took to the water to row the challenging 10.5 mile route around Lake Windermere and each of them had to endure windy conditions and choppy waters. Fantastic team spirit saw all of the rowers through as they cut their way through the water in support of GroceryAid.

Our thanks go to Mars UK, who were not only the major sponsors of the event, but also entered four boats into the row and brought along a fantastic group of supporters. The Windermere Row is also a favourite with families and friends, many of whom come along to support the rowers on the lake.

Tony Lorman, Mars UK, said “What a wonderful family event which Mars are proud to sponsor. This year’s Row was another triumph for GroceryAid, raising money and awareness for the charity whilst providing an opportunity for industry professionals to complete a demanding challenge followed by a an evening event where family and friends can celebrate.”

The day is split into two rows; with the morning row this year seeing the H J Heinz boat coming in with the fastest time of 2 hours and 14 minutes. In the afternoon row, the fastest boat was Mars Chocolate also at 2 hours and 14 minutes, being only 28 seconds after H J Heinz in the morning row. After coming in second place last year this was a great achievement for the H J Heinz team who were delighted to receive their prizes.

Commenting on the Row, Steven Hope from PepsiCo said; “Everyone from PepsiCo had a great weekend and really enjoyed the event. It was extremely well organised and was a pleasure to be part of – we will definitely look to return next year.”

During the evening entertainment various awards were presented. The winners of the best fancy dress competition were for the second year running Unilever who this time featured mermaid costumes, complete with ‘King Tritan’ and ‘Sebastian the crab’ in canine form. They impressed the judges from the off and their red hair made them unmistakeable out on the water. The ‘Best Endeavours’ award went to the PepsiCo boat who demonstrated fantastic teamwork and spirit, after a difficult start to their rowing challenge. The team who raised the most in additional fundraising this year is Mondel?z International who brought in an addition of more than £3,000.

GroceryAid would like to thank the major sponsor of the Windermere Row, Mars UK, and also Kellogg Company for sponsoring the evening dinner. In addition we would like to thank Keith Hogg, Non-Executive Director, Greenvale, for ensuring the safety of all those taking part plus all the companies who put so much effort into raising funds for GroceryAid and for making this event possible.
