Taywell Ice Creams is a manufacturer of hand made ice creams and sorbets using local milk, cream and fresh fruit from Kent & Sussex. Our produce contains no artificial additives, colours, flavours or stabilisers, nor any milk powder or bulking agents and almost all of our flavours are gluten free. The company is one of the very few to make ice cream the traditional way with pasteurised eggs to improve flavour and texture. We supply mostly to top chefs in the foodservice sector, theatres, farm shops, delicatessens and offer a daily delivery service to London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Our list of flavours runs to over a hundred and our retail tubs are in 125ml and 500ml eco-friendly sizes, with the catering sector being offered 2.5lt, 4lt and 5lt Napoli tubs.
Our new, custom-built factory is allowing us to become one of the largest manufacturers in Kent and the only one that makes sorbets, all of which contain fresh, whole fruit, many from The Garden of England. We produce a very high quality product – sales of super-premium ice creams are still growing, despite the recession, as customers seek solace in comfort food. Our small batch method allows us to produce short runs on unusual flavours and our thrust towards niche markets has led us to produce such flavours as Japanese Green Tea ice cream and Pimms sorbet, alongside our best sellers of honeycomb, chocolate, strawberry and vanilla.
The company has a large fan following on Twitter and Facebook, sends out its own trailer to shows and events and supports many marketing initiatives amongst its client base. It is one of the fastest growing ice cream companies in the UK yet has a small retail base as, historically, it has targeted the catering sector. Taywell has won many Gold Stars at The Great Taste Awards and several business awards; it has appeared on ‘The Apprentice’, BBC South East News, BBC Radio Kent, KMFM, Heart Radio, The Kent & Sussex Courier and in numerous magazines such as Kent Life, South East Business Magazine and The Vine.
The company is seeking a greater retail presence but is not looking for any national listing, preferring to remain a regional player only and adhering to its Food Miles policy. It is a member of Produced in Kent, the Sustainable Restaurant Association and has a SALSA accreditation as it heads towards its ISO 14001.
