SIG Combibloc, one of the world’s leading system suppliers of carton packaging and filling machines for beverages and food, has doubled its ambient food business in the UK, just one year after moving to new UK headquarters in County Durham.

The UK team has successfully grown its ambient food business by more than 100%, alongside its already buoyant long-life juice business. The bulk of SIG Combibloc‘s food business comes from private label ranges including Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s, with products ranging from Chopped Tomatoes and Sauces to Custard and Beans and Pulses.

Many well known brands are also entering SIG Combibloc’s food arena, including a recent launch by iconic soup brand Campbell’s with a range of premium soups in carton packs from SIG Combibloc – a major innovation for the UK soup market.

Food manufacturers such as Kerry Foods and Premier Foods are taking advantage of SIG Combibloc’s cost effective and flexible filling technology which offers the opportunity to fill viscous liquid food products at speeds and efficiency comparable to juice. Manufacturers also recognise the clear consumer benefits of the aseptic carton packs, such as easy opening and pouring, product protection, plus convenient storage.

Malcolm Allum, Managing Director at SIG Combibloc Ltd, commented: “We’ve worked closely with leading UK food manufacturers to demonstrate the existing and future opportunities our latest flexible food filling machines and carton packs offer. As well as the clear consumer benefits of our carton packs such as product quality and easy opening and pouring, retailers also benefit from the low weight, compact storage and reduced wastage.

“The opening of the new UK carton recycling mill in early 2013 will also increase local authority kerbside coverage and collection, which in turn will encourage more consumers to recycle carton packs in the UK.”

Owen Gahan, Site Manager at Kerry Foods commented: “We’re committed to providing our customers and consumers with consistently high quality long-life food products, in easy to use packaging solutions. The flexibility of SIG Combibloc’s filling technology and the high quality of the carton packs ensure that we are able to continue this focus and also commit to the environment with carton packs becoming much more widely recyclable.”
