Latitude machine increases SRP design innovation and boosts weekly output of dual role packs by 700,000 units. Strengthening its role as a pacemaker in the design and supply of cost-effective and creative Shelf-Ready Packaging (SRP) solutions, Rigid Containers (tel: 01536 760266) has completed commissioning an advanced Latitude two-colour flexo folder gluer at its newly-expanded corrugated fibreboard packaging plant in Selby. Now fully on stream, this additional machine forms part of a major expansion project nearing completion, which increases output at this European centre of manufacturing excellence by 40 per cent.

We are already widely acknowledged as an industry leader in this field and due to this investment by our parent company VPK Packaging, it expands further our offering in terms of SRP choice, design and production. It also boosts capacity for this increasingly popular form of transit/point-of-sale pack by 700,000 units per week, plus adding 20 per cent to Rigid‚s overall box output!”
Selby has enlarged production and storage facilities, with board capacity increased from 100 million to 140 million square metres. This incorporates a 50 per cent larger production hall, with additional in-line, high volume, four colour print, die-cut and box making capacity installed including, what is a world first, with the arrival of a specialist SupaNova 2 Multi Point Gluer. Providing straight-line, crash-lock and four-point gluing, this sophisticated machine is also ideal for manufacturing SRP.
Other work at Selby has included extending the roll store and finished goods areas where storage capacity jumps from 6,000 to 14,000 pallets. These new facilities continue to comply with BRC standards and are supported by the latest computerised manufacturing and logistics management systems.

Rigid also operates an extensive manufacturing plant in Desborough, which like Selby, has been expanded to include an advanced new warehouse and logistics centre. With the Selby expansion almost complete, the two UK plants provide customer storage for some 30,000 pallets – further strengthening the company‚s unrivalled ex-stock service levels.
