rimon-winery100% Pomegranate wine is now available in the UK for the first time, thanks to Rimon Winery.  We can now enjoy the ancient crimson fruit in the form of world-class wines made from 100% pomegranate juice retaining the succulent flavours and health giving properties of the pomegranate fruit even after they have been fermented into wine.  Rimon Winery exhibited at IFE’09 for the first time this year and received substantial acclaim for its products.

Michael Dalal, Europe’s exclusive representative and sole distributor, comments: “We were delighted to introduce Rimon wines at the IFE this year, where over 4000 individuals and representatives from the trade came to the stand and tasted our wines. Many people were surprised and delighted with what they tasted, from the contact at the Houses of Parliament, to health food stores and even the UK’s largest multiple grocery retailer.  We’re hoping this interest will translate into sales and a commitment to stock our wines in their stores, restaurants and hotels”.

Rimon are the only wines in the world made from 100% pomegranate juice with no addition of sugar. Planted 3000 ft above sea level, in the heart of the Galilee Mountains, the flavour of the fruit benefits from the mild climate that supports the ripening process. The pomegranates thrive in the basalt rich soil that is typical of the region and gives the wines their characteristic taste, body and colour.

The Nachmias family have cultivated a “super fruit” a unique variety of pomegranate that is sweeter, deeper in colour, and richer in vitamins and antioxidants than other pomegranate varieties.

picture-236The traditional techniques used by the Nachmias Family to make the Rimon pomegranate wines are virtually identical to the traditional methods of making grape wine. The fruit is harvested at optimum ripeness and crushed, then moved into large temperature-controlled steel tanks to ferment.

After fermentation, the wine is then aged in French oak barrels to add complexity and softness. The only difference is in the machine that crushes the fruit. We use a specially designed machine to open each pomegranate into a flower-like shape, scoop out the ripe, edible seeds, and crush them for their rich red juice.

Dalal:”Rimon Winery has perfected the art of making pomegranate wine.  It’s gold medal wines have been very well received around the world and we are very pleased to finally be able to share them with UK wine enthusiasts. We think they’ll agree, they are some the most innovative and impressive wine products on the market today”.

The Rimon range includes 3 wine types, all of which are best served chilled.

picture-020Rimon Dry wine: an elegant wine with a special bouquet, it has flavours of cherries with a faint hint of black pepper and a well-balanced soft finish. Try it with Italian cooking and other full flavoured foods.

Rimon Dessert wine: a sweet yet light wine with fruity aromas, notes of chocolate and bright cherry flavours. It’s perfect with puddings and soft ripe cheese.

Rimon Port style wine: produced in a similar process to a traditional full-bodied port this wine has a nose of stone fruits and sweet spices. It is sweet on the palate with a delicate warm finish and goes well with fruit, chocolate desserts and blue cheese.

All Rimon wines are produced according to the highest quality winemaking standards and all are certified Kosher.

The Dessert wine is now available in Waitrose who are one of the first major supermarkets to look at stocking Pomegranate wines.

The world’s youngest Master of Wine and Waitrose’s very own wine buyer, Ken Mackay, says: “Pomegranates are a big hit with Waitrose shoppers, so we are pleased to be the first UK retailer to offer Rimon Winery’s Pomegranate Dessert Wine. This wine is a perfect after-dinner drink. It matches well with fruit puddings, such as crumble, and will be a delicious accompaniment to a cheese board”.

A Growing Trend

istock_000004423179Pomegranates are a ‘superfood’ rich in the antioxidants beneficial for blood circulation and the heart. They contain vitamins A, B and C, iron, calcium and other essential minerals.

Pomegranate has become one of the fastest growing trends in the food industry, not only for its great taste but also for its exceptional health benefits. The health-giving properties of the fruit are still contained in this unique wine, it has three times the antioxidant power of normal red wine or green tea, as well as a wealth of vitamins and minerals.
