GT – What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

Positive results, the sense of achievement never diminishes.

David Shorthouse, Business Development Manager, Inspired Pet Nutrition

GT – Who’s inspired you most in your career?

My partner entered the Insurance industry direct from leaving school. Once we married she studied in the evenings to gain CII accreditation. When our children arrived she moved through the business quite quickly to become a Business Manager, looking after multi-million pound corporate accounts whilst spending many nights away from home. In this time she managed to run a home and ensure our children, now 19 & 21, had an excellent upbringing. She is the most positive, inspiring person I have met.

GT – If you were an item in a supermarket, what would you be?

The trolley with the wonky wheel being pulled in all directions.

GT – If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?

Have more time for my family, your children are only young for a relatively short time.

GT – What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?

Can’t say, far too embarrassing. Drunk on team building event.

GT – Who or what makes you laugh?

Keith Lemon’s Celebrity Juice – it makes me cringe, but it also makes me laugh out loud.

GT – Do you have any hidden talents?

Can’t sing, can’t dance however I can juggle.

GT – Who would be your favourite party guest?

It has to be Gazza of 1996, he would be the life and soul of the party.

GT – What is the greatest luxury in your life?

Without doubt good health, without it there would be no other luxuries. Who knows what tomorrow brings?

GT – What is your favourite guilty pleasure?

I have a sweet tooth, I cannot pass on a dessert, should any be left in the fridge it is demolished within hours.

GT – Do you have any secret ambitions?

I’m competing in an endurance event this summer for the third time, I would like to take an hour off my time.

GT – What’s your dream holiday destination?

A cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore, taking in Thailand and Vietnam.

GT – What are your three favourite movies of all time?

Big – Tom Hanks, I watch it every Xmas, Schindler’s List, Liam Neeson, I remember the audience leaving a packed cinema in total silence and Goodfellas – De Niro, Joe Pesci, Ray Liotta.

GT – What is your favourite book of all time?

I only read whilst on holiday, Ricky – Ricky Tomlinson’s autobiography.

GT –What’s your favourite pastime?

In a week I spend approximately 3 hours running and at least 6 hours cycling in winter, come summer the cycling will double with open water swimming thrown in. Hence no time for reading.

GT – If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

If the win is big enough, ensure the family is financially secure, invest and travel for 12 months on the proceeds from the interest whilst deciding on what to do next.

GT – What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into this industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?

Represent a brand you believe in, having a passion for your brand/product shines through. Once within your position, get involved in projects, this will give you exposure to the wider business. Be inquisitive, gain understanding of process/agreements and why they are in place.
