pressimageAs fears of a global recession prove well founded, companies in all sectors are looking closely at their operations, and the food and drink processing and packaging industry is certainly no exception. It has never been more pertinent for all those involved in the sector to seek out the most cost efficient practices, equipment and materials to improve their business.

Now is undoubtedly a challenging time for those within the industry as companies must not only adapt to the difficult economic conditions but also respond to increasing consumer pressure to provide healthy, environmentally friendly, low-cost and convenient products.  One of the most cost effective ways for companies to respond to these trends, is to make a visit to the Pro2Pac exhibition which provides the opportunity to view the latest product innovations, gather market information and develop strategic partnerships as well as maintain contact with current suppliers. Pro2Pac 2009 is the only biennial event dedicated to processing and packaging in the food and drink industry and takes place at London’s ExCeL from 15 – 18 March.

Pro2Pac 2009’s strategic positioning alongside IFE, the internationally renowned food and drink exhibition offers a unique 360-degree perspective of the food and drink industry, bringing national and international visitors from retail, manufacturing food service, wholesale and distribution to London. Together the two events make up the UK’s largest food exhibition in Spring 2009 and offer visitors unrivalled product sourcing and networking opportunities.

Innovations within food packaging and processing are not just being driven by consumer demand, but environmental factors, cost efficiency and the rising cost of petroleum and other commodities which all influence the development of solutions.

Highlighting such issues, and new for this year’s show, Packaging Innovation @ Pro2Pac is a series of free seminars that will form one of the central visitor attractions at the exhibition. Sponsored by WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) and organised by Packaging Materials Link, the seminars will feature contributions from brand owners, major retailers, and industry experts, including Dick Searle, Chief Executive of the Packaging Federation, and will address hot topics relating to global food and drink packaging trends.

Widespread media attention on the subject of ‘wasteful and unnecessary’ packaging means there is huge interest in the area, and the combination of keynote addresses and short seminars on a variety of topics including Corporate Social Responsibility, reducing food wastemanagement, freshness, and understanding consumer insight, will provide useful and practical business advice for food and drink industry professionals.

To help visitors prepare for their visit to Pro2Pac the show website hosts an interactive show planner search facility – going live one month before the exhibition – which allows visitors to search for products and services of interest which are offered by Pro2Pac exhibitors.
