Hull-based brand BOXED, which was acquired by Nomad Foods as part of its takeover of Aunt Bessie’s from William Jackson Food Group in June this year, is switching from a serves two to a serves one format from 17 September. The change introduces BOXED to the popular meals-for-one market, which is now worth over £20 billion*.

The brand has also increased distribution and is available to purchase in 243 stores and online at tesco.com.

BOXED is a range of premium frozen prepared meals containing great quality ingredients, offering a twist on four favourite meals. The meals are packed with natural ingredients, carefully prepared with no additives, artificial colours or flavours and each fast-frozen to lock in freshness and flavour.

Including only fresh and carefully sourced ingredients. BOXED offers convenience without the compromise. The newly formatted BOXED meals serve one and are priced at £4.00 RRP.

The meals include:

  • Tikka Marinated Chicken Jalfrezi with Naan Dumplings (£4.00 RRP/375g)
  • Aubergine & Courgette Parmigiana (£4.00/375g)
  • Fully Loaded Mac & Cheese (£4.00 RRP/350g)
  • King Prawn, Chicken & Chorizo Paella (£4.00 RRP/375g)

Recognising the challenge of food waste – especially for solo diners – the serves one format provides a convenient, high quality and great tasting meal solution that’s ready for you when you are, therefore minimising unnecessary waste.

Conscious of the environmental concern that plastic brings, BOXED wanted to develop something that used the most sustainable packaging methods available. Its paper board is fit for purpose and sustainable in every way, using sustainable forestry and an environmentally sound production process, largely run by bioenergy. The brand’s vibrant packaging is also recyclable and uses the minimum amount of material possible to allow the product to arrive to consumers in perfect condition.

Nicola Bates, Senior Brand Manager said: “This is an exciting time for BOXED. 63% of sales in Tesco are incremental to the frozen ready meal category, so we really embraced the opportunity to bring a premium meal option to the freezer aisle. Switching to a serves one format opens us up to a new market – busy consumers who seek convenience, flexibility, but still quality and taste, when it comes to mealtimes“.

Nomad Foods also own Goodfella’s Pizza, Aunt Bessie’s, Birds Eye and Findus.
