Retailers play a key part in the uplift in sales during the Christmas period through merchandising and stocking a broad range of brushes to meet different consumer needs. This year, across the Christmas period Oral-B® ProfessionalCare brushes can be found at 50% off in a number of retailers.

Oral-B® has a comprehensive range of rechargeable toothbrushes to suit all needs and budgets from around £30 (£15 on 1/2 price) stocking fillers to the most technologically advanced toothbrush priced at around £160 (£80 on 1/2 price) – the perfect gift to make that special gadget fan smile on Christmas morning.

In time for Christmas 2009, Oral-B® has updated its packaging across its ProfessionalCare range with a new modern, slick design. The range comes with Oral-B’s best 3D technology, which oscillates, rotates and pulsates to break up plaque and sweep it away. The series includes:

• Oral-B® ProfessionalCare™ 1000, 2000 and 3000 – Each tooth brush now features a new ergonomic handle for comfort and ease, as well as, a new visible pressure sensor to ensure consumers brush correctly without applying too much force.

• Oral-B® ProfessionalCare 4000™ (Oral-B® Triumph™) – Oral-B introduced the Triumph 4000 with a handle display that tells you how long to brush and when to change the toothbrush head.

• Oral-B® ProfessionalCare 5000™ (Oral-B® Triumph with SmartGuide™) – The only rechargeable toothbrush to be endorsed by the British Dental Health Foundation. It has a remote wireless display designed to help users improve their brushing technique.

In addition, Oral-B® also has a comprehensive range of entry-level rechargeable toothbrushes, Oral-B® ProfessionalCare 500, priced at £44.95 or just over £20 on promotion, which offer consumers benefits from whitening to sensitive oral care.

The rechargeable toothbrush market is currently worth £61M and is growing at a rate of 19% year-on-year. Within this Oral-B® holds an 86% market value share and is growing at a rate of 22% year-on-year. The current household penetration in the UK is 23% and when compared with the penetration of countries such as Norway (41%) or Holland (32%), the opportunity for further growth is clear.
