Polymer Logistics has enhanced its reusable transport packaging portfolio with a professional wash service to meet its own equipment cleaning requirements and those of other companies.
Polymer Logistics has been providing “One-Touch/Retail Reusable Packaging (RRP)” solutions to retailers worldwide for over two decades. With producer and retailer awareness of cross-contamination risks growing, Polymer has expanded its services to include automated washing for its own pooled crates and pallets and customer equipment.
Polymer opened its Coventry service centre in December 2017, the company’s second UK wash facility. Polymer also has a washing and distribution facility in Wakefield. The new service centre’s location was key, says Simon Moulson, New Business Development Director at Polymer Logistics: “The central location in the middle of the country provides a convenient base to serve UK and international customers.”
The Coventry site’s central location has already saved one customer 12,000 miles per year in transportation. The 50,000 square foot facility includes solar panels, heat recirculation and LED lighting. Greywater is captured from the roof for WC flush and other needs.
The state-of-the-art wash line incorporates pre-wash, hot wash, high-pressure wash, hot rinse and drying operations. Food grade detergents are utilised, and water reused and cleaned to reduce environmental impact and cost. Batch controls and bioluminescence (ATP) monitoring ensure washing and traceability to the highest standards. Annual wash capacity exceeds 30 million trays.
The flexible automated system handles a diverse range of folding trays, nesting trays, rigid trays, display pallets and dollies simultaneously, allowing customers to enjoy a predetermined cost of washing while avoiding capital expenditure on inhouse washing. Polymer also provides reusable packaging inspection and repair.
