d2z8229.jpgRichmond based Holmesterne Foods has again secured grade A accreditation with Saj Global from the British Retail Consortium on all three of their North Yorkshire based factories. Developed by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), the UK trade organization that represents the interests of UK retailers, the BRC’s Global Standard for Food Safety was created to establish a standard for due diligence and supplier approval.

Holmesterne’s Managing Director Keith Tindell says, “I’m really pleased we’ve achieved top accreditation across all 3 factories. It’s become increasingly difficult to keep A grade status because of more stringent guidelines on allergens, environmental issues and waste reduction and disposal.”

“It’s vitally important in tough economic conditions to keep high production standards, now is not the time to scrimp on the basics. We pride ourselves on providing great products in the safest and cleanest of premises. It’s key to the success of our business,” explains Tindell.

Holmesterne is keeping ahead of the tough economic conditions with sales up 18% year on year.

“Slow cooked products using cheaper, but flavoursome cuts of meat have been popular with our customers. We’re launching a new line into Waitrose called Ribs and Stuff.  It’s delicious slow cooked comfort food, perfect solace for cold winter nights.”

“Our credit crunch busting Pork Shank with Apple and Cider has also proved popular with retailers.  Long slow braising really brings out the flavour in underused cuts of meat.  Ironically, our innovation harks back to the good old fashioned stews my mother used to make. Using thrifty cooking methods has kept Holmesterne on track and in profits.”
