Year after year DS Smith Packaging has won numerous awards for outstanding flexographic printing in the EFIA competition. 2011 was no different with the achievement of 13 awards in total, 2 Golds, 5 Silvers, 5 Bronzes and 1 highly commended.
The two Golds were awarded for a Brabantia consumer pack and for a retail ready pack for Cadbury Caramilk Secrets. The Brabantia pack is pre-printed in four colours with a varnish. Achieving this high standard of print was a challenging task due to the size of the pack. A wide deckle of paper was required and special inks were formulated to create the all-over tone.
Two Silvers were awarded for highly impactful Chivas Regal prints. The first Silver went to Chivas Regal 12 x 500ml 12 year old Premium Blended Scotch whisky, in the category of uncoated process print. This was printed in six colours with varnish. The second Silver went to Chivas Regal 4.5ltr 12 year old Premium Blended Scotch whisky in the ‘corrugated coated – line & screen’ category.
A 5 colour post-print of an Eric the Elephant pack from Calypso, for Sainsbury’s, won a bronze award. This is a great achievement for the team who were able to demonstrate that the new, unique material R-Flute® is capable of being post printed to the highest standard.
