Utilising the very latest flexographic printing and lamination techniques, Mercury Packaging – one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of flexible packaging solutions – has recently supplied a variety of high quality, printed film-on-the-reel products to Pointer Pet Foods for a new range of dog biscuits and treats.

Specially developed to fulfil the pet food manufacturer’s protective, practical and decorative packaging requirements, Mercury produced the BRC approved laminated films using various combinations of substrates including orientated and cast polypropylene (OPP / CPP), and polyester.

Featuring some 20 eye-catching designs for 500 gram and two kilo size packs of different flavoured bones, cobs, and treats, the films were eight-colour printed by Mercury using its £1.3 million flexographic gearless press recently installed at its state-of-the-art 33,000 sq ft manufacturing facility, located in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.

“Our relationship with Mercury couldn’t be any better,” comments Laura Humphries, Sales Executive at Pointer Pet Foods. “The overall service and quality of film and print has been excellent and we would not hesitate to use the company again in the future.”

Mercury offers a diverse range of printing capabilities up to 1250mm wide with 330mm to 750mm design repeat in up to eight colours. It allows printing and lamination to a broad range of material substrates including polypropylene (PP) and biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP). Speciality inks include metallics, light fast, pearlescents, high abrasion resistance, deep freeze, write-on and thermochromics.

In addition to films and laminates, Mercury offers wicketted bags for the food industry with particular focus on the fresh produce and bakery sectors. A plethora of styles and options are available including gusseted or non-gusseted; tear-off perforations; punched handles; ventilation perforations; re-sealable tapes; captive flap; perforated openings and blockheaded.

Employing over 50 people, Mercury is an independent business working to stringent quality protocols with many of its products carrying technical accreditations. The company has invested for maximum operating efficiencies with production, printing and warehousing facilities geared to support efficient supply chain management service and significant future growth.

Currently celebrating its 10-year anniversary, Mercury was established in 1999 and has a turnover in excess of £6million.
