premier-foodsCHEP – the global leader in pallet and container pooling services – is delighted to announce an extension to its contract with Premier Foods, the UK’s largest food producer.  CHEP blue pallets will be carrying a range of Premier Foods’ brands including Hovis, Branston, Mr Kipling and Sharwoods to leading retailers across the UK.

As part of the CHEP / Premier Foods partnership, CHEP recently undertook an extensive supply chain mapping exercise to identify areas within the existing contract, plus a number of new opportunities, that could generate both cost savings and a positive environmental impact.

Commenting on the agreement, Jeff Snelling, general manager, Premier Foods, said: “We challenged CHEP to demonstrate a way of working together for the future which could both reduce our impact on the environment and create cost savings.”

The study identified numerous opportunities for CHEP to provide additional services that could deliver immediate impact including:

– Enabling Premier Foods to use the ‘empty legs’ of truck transport from another customer.  This ensures transport is optimised for Premier Foods and vice versa.

– A review of the managed recovery service which CHEP is currently providing to Premier Foods which is an enhancement to the traditional “exchange” process that ensures the constant cycle of trade quality pallets. These are collected in full truck loads by CHEP directly from retailers and distributed to Premier Food’s depots.

Daniel Walsh, commercial director, CHEP UK & Ireland, said: “I am delighted that CHEP has extended its contract with Premier Foods. We’re looking forward to implementing the results of our extensive supply chain study and working in partnership with this important customer. As part of the contract both companies will be jointly exploring new ways to further reduce the environmental impact of the flow of goods. We are fully committed to making sure that whatever we do is environmentally friendly and our integrated logistics system helps reduce waste and ’empty runs’, minimising both cost and environmental impact.”
