Natures Way Foods (NWF), which specialises in the supply of bagged salads, prepared fruit and leafy salad bowls and trays to major retail and food service companies, is the first to install Toshiba TEC’s latest B-EX industrial printers. One of the UK’s leading fresh prepared produce manufacturers, NWF chose the B-EX series for its brand new factory in Merston, West Sussex, for its reliability and performance, low-cost of ownership and an impressive range of green credentials.

When NWF opened their new 7500m2 purpose-built fresh produce preparation and packing factory in December 2011, their long-term IT supplier ITW Promedia recommended a combination of the new Toshiba B-EX4, with its low power consumption and high speed printing, and the B-SA4, with its compact footprint and clamshell design.

NWF prints thousands of labels per day, both in the despatch area and in the food packing high-care environment, shipping out 280 pallets per day. With printers operating 24/7 it was essential to have reliable printers and high quality output to guarantee delivery timescales and quality of print for the major supermarket chains supplied by NWF.

“We have always used Toshiba TEC printers and were impressed with B-EX4,” said Ricky Selleck, Systems Engineer, NWF. “It has proved to be an ideal industrial work-horse for our despatch area and at a very competitive price, especially for such a high specification machine.”

He continued: “The green credentials – low power consumption, energy star rating and carbon offset, were also the perfect fit for our new Merston site, which was designed with minimising environmental impact in mind.”

The B-EX4 was demonstrated by ITW Promedia and, once installed, was simply ‘plug and play’, for seamless integration into the packing and production environments, and easy to use for the production staff. “We plugged in the printer and out came a label to our requirements, first time”, commented Selleck.

The smaller semi-industrial B-SA4 printers have been utilised at the end of each of the production lines; the compact footprint is ideally suited to the purpose-built cabinets required in the high-care production and packing areas.

Since its creation in 1994, NWF has grown rapidly to three sites with in excess of 700 employees today, and has further plans for future growth. “With Toshiba printers we now have a future-proofed solution that can grow with the needs of the business, printers that are reliable, robust and can cope with the extreme environments required in our production facilities.” Selleck concluded.
