When it comes to purchasing gardening gloves, gardeners now have a truly eco-friendly option with the launch of the first fully biodegradable, multi-purpose synthetic gardening glove. The Showa 4552 has a unique ‘biodegradable’ characteristic which is made possible with innovative Eco Best Technology™ (EBT) within both the liner and the sponge nitrile coating.

This revolutionary glove has been added to the Globus gardening retail range for hand protection when carrying out every day gardening tasks including potting out, pruning, lawn care and general garden maintenance. The nitrile coating to the palm provides excellent grip in all conditions giving gardeners confidence when handling pots and garden tools.

Without the EBT additive, nitrile can take decades, if not hundreds of years, to biodegrade and break down in landfill whereas the biodegradation rate of the Showa 4552 is far more rapid, typically within 24 months. Independent research laboratories place the time between one and five years depending on landfill site conditions. The Showa 4552 becomes the second fully biodegradable product, following the introduction of the world’s first biodegradable nitrile disposable glove last year.

The Showa 4552 gardening gloves, from Globus, were showcased at The Garden Press Event, held in February 2015 at The Barbican in London. Globus has over two decades of experience in protecting hands with significant research and knowledge gained from working with companies whose workers’ hands are exposed to a multitude of hazards in the most extreme conditions. As a result its comprehensive range of Showa gardening gloves boast impressive attributes.

Globus’ entire Showa gardening glove range has been designed for long periods of wear and allows excellent dexterity, comfort and durability. The Showa 4552 offers an anatomically designed fit for excellent comfort with an elasticated cuff to secure the glove in place. The glove is breathable to keep hands comfortable during long periods of wear and is machine washable.

The glove has a 15 gauge, seamless lightweight liner and a sponge nitrile coating for optimal, long lasting grip. It can be washed to keep it clean and then reused many times. When the glove eventually needs to be disposed of, the glove’s environmental credentials outperform most, if not all, of the existing gloves on the market.

The ‘biodegradable’ component of the Showa 4552 is made possible with innovative Eco Best Technology™ (EBT) within both the liner and the sponge nitrile coating. The EBT organic additive is designed to make the Showa 4552 attractive to microbial activity in landfill. Upon consumption of the EBT formulation, micro-organisms excrete enzymes that depolymerise the nitrile and polyester liner. The result is biogases and nitrous soil.

Garden centres and other retailers may secure repeat purchasing as the Showa range of gloves is designed for comfort and dexterity. They are also remarkably resilient, providing excellent protection for the hands from general wear and abrasion.

The gloves are available in small, medium, large and extra-large sizes, in ‘eco-friendly’ green. An attractive, robust Free Standing Display Unit (FSDU) is also available to retailers for qualifying orders.

Steve Shale, Marketing Manager of Globus said, “We have had a lot of interest from the gardening community who, apart from liking their fit and comfortable feel, are very impressed that the Showa 4552 glove deals responsibly with its end-of-life disposal, seeing it as a positive step forward.”
