Derby-based ethnic ready meal manufacturer S&A Foods was proud to commend 26 staff members for their long service, creativity and loyalty at a dedicated awards ceremony.

Among the accolades presented was the ‘Best Curry Recipe Idea’ Award, following a competition which invites S&A Foods colleagues to submit one of their own curry recipes.

Awards were presented to two runners up along with winner Khurrum Hussain. Khurrum and his wife Sumaira’s winning recipe, a tomato lamb curry which is a traditional family dish, was the outright winner.

“It’s a recipe we make every few weeks, and we decided that if the company could get something out of it, it would be a good thing,” said Khurrum. “We’ll be making it tonight to celebrate!”

Kuldeep Pabla was crowned the annual winner of S&A Foods’ My Bright Idea award, a scheme through which colleagues are encouraged to submit ideas which could improve efficiency, communication, quality or safety in the company.

Kuldeep suggested an idea to provide additional protection for the main electric motors in the production area, reducing maintenance down time. He was presented with a cheque for £2,000 at the ceremony.

“Innovation is one of our key values at S&A Foods,” said S&A Foods’ founder and CEO Perween Warsi. “I’m amazed every day by the creativity and passion shown by my colleagues, and this has been highlighted by Khurrum and Kuldeep’s winning ideas.”

22 people were presented with long service awards, having worked at the company for more than 15 years.

“It was a great honour to present so many awards at once,” Perween added. “S&A Foods could not exist without its people, and we are very lucky to have people who share my key values: respect for people, honesty, quality and innovation.”
