RH Amar, the UK’s leading fine food distributor and importer, is pleased to announce that its German brand, Kühne – #1 Gherkin brand in Germany – has sponsored major UK city Oktoberfests for the second consecutive year.
This year, UK Oktoberfest celebrations were larger than ever, with events for three additional cities – Manchester, Birmingham and Aberdeen – added on top of London, Edinburgh and Glasgow from last year. The addition of three extra cities at this year’s Oktoberfest celebrations reflects the burgeoning interest in wider German cuisine and culture.
Kühne, Germany’s best-selling brand of pickles and vinegars, sponsored and supplied samples of its hugely popular range of Gherkins, Sauerkraut and Pickled Red Cabbage at all six UK events.
“On the back of last year’s success, we’ve returned to this year’s UK Oktoberfests. Live events offer a highly effective sampling mechanism to draw in a wider public with a genuine interest in German food,” says Peter Maretzki, Export Director, Kühne.
“Kühne has experienced a record year of sales of its award-winning Gherkins. Kühne’s UK sales have seen 23% value and 23% volume growth YOY to Aug 2013-Aug 2014,” says Philip Marx, Brand Manager at Fine Food Distributor RH Amar. “On the back of a hot summer, sales of Kühne gherkins, the perennial burger BBQ accompaniment, have soared. While gherkins are often the unsung hero of the BBQ, Kühne’s award-winning gherkins break the mold offering an outstanding flavour and crunch recognized by the discerning Great Taste Award judges where they’ve picked up two gold stars.”
“Further successes for the brand this year included increased distribution, with Kühne’s 670g Gherkins going into ASDA and its award-winning 350g Sweet Pickle Gherkin Relish going into Sainsbury’s. Nisa has also added 330g sandwich slices into their existing range of 330g gherkins and 810g sauerkraut,” he adds.
Oktoberfest is a long-established festival in the German Bavarian calendar that runs over 16 days from the end of September into October. Kühne uses only natural sweeteners and no preservatives. Its multiple award-winning gherkins are hand-picked and pickled in finely seasoned vinegar within 20 hours, to deliver a terrific quality and crunch.
