FreeFrom Flour takes the cake at prestigious industry awards

After winning the ingredients category of the recent FreeFrom Awards Doves Farm Gluten Self-Raising Flour went on to be crowned the overall  winner of the 2011 FreeFrom trophy having been selected from over 300 products in 17 categories.

The flour is specially milled from a blend of rice, potato, tapioca, maize and buckwheat flours, and is a popular alternative for anyone wishing to bake cakes without wheat or gluten. It is part of a range of specialist alternative flours produced by the company that includes buckwheat, gram, rice, quinoa and teff flours as well as gluten free bread flour blends.

Clare Marriage, Chief Executive of Doves Farm Foods said: “When designing our gluten free flour blends ease of use, taste, texture, oven performance and the final baked item were all important considerations. This flour can replace conventional self-raising flours in most recipes although as long as the recipe liquid is slightly increased. The extra liquid is quickly absorbed.

According to research* among those that bake at home, 49% make standard cakes, such as a Victoria sponge, while 39% bake cupcakes. Many cakes are made as treats or for special occasions; when they are baked with gluten free self-raising flour the cakes are so good everyone can enjoy them whether or not they are on a special diet.
