carl-rehCarl Reh, owner of Germany’s most awarded winery Reh Kendermann, has been awarded the honour of “National Wine Businessman of the Year” at this year’s international Meininger Awards. Carl Reh was one of only five personalities to receive the international prize for outstanding contributions to the wine and spirits business.

“Reh Kendermann is one of the most successful exporters of German wine,” commented Peter Winter from the Georg Mueller Foundation winery when presenting the trophy at this year’s Meininger Awards. “The company is in an excellent position for the future with its branded wines.”

Based at Bingen, Reh Kenderman has been run by the Reh family for three generations, and was created in 1997 when the Carl Reh and Hermann Kendermann wineries merged. State-of-the-art technology was employed at an early stage, thus “laying the foundations for a pioneering increase in quality,” added Peter Winter in his speech. Carl Reh convinced the jury with his constant attention to quality, even in the face of resistance.

The Reh Kendermann winery is one of the most modern in Germany. The company is also the largest exporter of German premium branded wines globally and today, is one of the most important ‘ambassadors’ for German wine.

Sales of Reh Kendermann’s brands continue to grow, despite the economic recession. 12 million bottles of the top selling German wine brand, Black Tower are being sold worldwide in 54 countries, and the brand is one of the UK’s overall top 20 best selling wines in the off trade. Reh Kendermann’s Weight Watchers® and Kendermanns wines are ranked* the UK off trade’s third and fourth best selling German wine brands, with Kendermanns winning more national and international awards than any other German wine brand.

Looking to the future, Carl Reh is driving the company internationally and developing new markets in Sweden, Finland and Brazil with the goal to win more customers for German wine around the world.
“I am very pleased to receive this special award,” commented Carl Reh. “It is just as much an award for Reh Kendermann’s entire team – which works day in, day out to put our philosophy into practice: gearing products to consumer’s tastes, and focusing on fresh, affordably priced wines with constantly high quality.”
