The beginning of September is drawing near, which can only mean two things… firstly, the start of the native oyster season and secondly… time to search for The Tabasco® British Oyster Opening Champion of 2012.
The championship, a national competition that takes place annually, is now in its 20th year. It is renowned in the hospitality industry and never fails to draw a big crowd of well known industry figures.
Each year Tabasco® seeks the best oyster opener (or ‘shucker’) in Britain. The winner is not only chosen by his/her speed in opening native 30 oysters, but also on their presentation skills. This year’s championship takes place at Bentleys Oyster Bar and Grill in London on Monday 3rd September. The current champion is Fredrik Lindfors of The Fish Shop. He has retained the British title for the last two years, so the pressure is on… will he keep it for a third year in a row? Well, last year he managed to open and present 30 oysters in an impressive 3 minutes 35 seconds, so challengers be warned!
