Londoners and tourists got a shock as National Plughole Week made a splash around the capital at the end of July. The amphibious London Duck took to the streets (and rivers) of London and raised eyebrows amongst hundreds of onlookers who stopped to stare at the quirky bus.
National Plughole Week (20th-27th July) is supported by Challs International, manufacturers of the Buster brand of plughole care products, and aims to raise awareness of poor sanitation in developing countries and funds for Oxfam GB to help bring about change.
Caring brand Buster featured a striking neck collar design with the message ‘Together we’ll help.’ and 5p on every bottle sold during the campaign will be donated by Challs International to Oxfam GB, who will buy water filters, rain water harvesting systems and essential hygiene kits in countries where unclean water claims many lives. The National Plughole Week campaign will raise over £8,000 for Oxfam GB.
PR for National Plughole Week included six national consumer competitions in print and online media, schools projects about water use and a fun Facebook Survey where consumers were asked to ‘pull the plug’ on celebrities and subjects they’re fed up with. Consumers could donate further to the campaign or win one of ten luxury spa vouchers at the National Plughole Week website.
