Blakemore Trade Partners colleagues have raised more than £5,000 by taking part in a series of unusual and challenging ‘100’ themed fundraisers to mark A.F. Blakemore & Son’s centenary.

Seven Blakemore Trade Partners Business Development Managers completed the Yorkshire
Three Peaks challenge.

Colleagues set individual and group challenges with a centenary theme to raise money for various charities of their choice.

Some challenges were personal goals, with several colleagues aiming to lose weight by the 100th year anniversary, while others organised 100-mile walks and bike rides.

Seven business development managers each embarked on a 15- mile canal walk to cover 100 miles in total, from Llanfoist to Cwmbran in south east Wales, and raised almost £700 for the charity Silver Line.

Sales team members Emily Gladman, Jordan Betts, Joe Kennedy and Justin Davy took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, successfully climbing Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent.

Together they raised over £700 to distribute between their chosen good causes, Cathedral Archer Project, CLIC Sargent, Alzheimer’s Society and St. Faith’s Pre-school.

Retail Operations Manager Jo Redding embarked on a 100-mile bike ride across the Midlands and raised £900, along with match funding from the Blakemore Foundation, for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and the Midland Freewheelers Emergency Rider Voluntary Service.

The Midlands Freewheelers is a charitable organisation made up of motorcycling enthusiasts and volunteers who provide a free, outof- hours courier service for NHS hospitals and trusts in the West Midlands.

Jo decided to raise money for the West Midlands Air Ambulance because of their assistance at a recent tragic road accident that involved a family friend.

Sales Director Neil Mercer also raised over £1000 for Bloodwise, a leukaemia and lymphoma research charity, by encouraging people to sponsor the songs he sang with the company band ‘No Direction’ at the SPAR Retail Show on 7th September.

Development and Sales team colleagues Andy Morgan, Stuart Ware, Helen Barker, Paul Vinnell and Oliver Walters, along with Paul’s wife and son, Chantelle and Will, and Oliver’s wife Sally who provided vehicle support during the challenge, tackled a 100-mile bike ride across the South Downs Way, from Winchester to Eastbourne in three days.

The team successfully completed the challenge and raised over £2,000 including match funding from the Blakemore Foundation, which has been donated to their chosen charities The Stroke Association, Compton Hospice, Cancer Research UK, and the NSPCC.

Organiser Andy Morgan commented: “I am really pleased to say that after eight years of talking about it with Stuart Ware, we finally did it!

“At times it was tough and a lot of hard work, but we are elated to have achieved our goal and raised so much for our chosen charities in the process.

“What a great way to celebrate A.F. Blakemore & Son’s 100 years in business!”
