Having enjoyed unprecedented success in 2011, this year’s Global Cheese Awards, which are followed by the Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show each September, are set to continue driving forward and celebrate another record year, firmly positioning it as one of the major shows for cheese and dairy suppliers across the UK, and internationally too.

Well known for more than 150 years as the ‘Frome Cheese Show’, and based in the heart of the cheesemaking county of Somerset, it has an illustrious heritage and is one of the oldest cheese shows in the UK. Whilst its organisers today remain proud of its roots – and particularly of the outstanding quality and range of artisan cheesemakers who take part each year – they are not afraid to embrace change and innovation and now attract and encourage participation by producers, suppliers and retailers across the cheese spectrum and world-wide.

The Awards are strongly supported by small and specialist producers who use unique recipes handed down for many generations, right through to the larger creameries and major multiples.

A highly successful rebranding exercise in 2011 saw The Global Cheese Awards entries overall increase by more than 60%, with a spectacular 300% rise in entries submitted by retailers. Visitor numbers were also up last year, as the event celebrated its 150th birthday and opened its doors to international producers, offering 73 new classes including ‘Best Overseas’ and ‘Best European’ awards.

Chairman Nigel Pooley is determined to continue to build on this success in 2012. Last year was a tremendous success, and we’re committed to maintaining that momentum in 2012” he commented.  “It is our aim to make the 2012 Awards an event that appeals to everyone industry-wide – however large or small they may be. That means encouraging more retailers to enter and win these prestigious awards, alongside the wonderful traditional artisan cheeses which remain at the heart of our Show. The Awards are now a major fixture in the cheese-industry’s annual calendar and are growing in popularity each year.

The Trade Day for The Global Cheese Awards, will be held on Friday 7th September 2012 when judging will take place and trophies will be presented to class winners. This will be followed by the Frome Agriculture and Cheese Show on Saturday 8th September. This is a wonderful day out for all the family with a wide range of attractions and, of course, the opportunity to try and buy some of the world’s best cheese.
