Awards stream into DS Smith Packaging

110_1012.jpgIn the Starpack 2008 competition DS Smith Packaging has won a total of 8 awards including one gold and three silvers, far more than any other corrugated packaging company. The Gold Award went to DS Smith Packaging Clay Cross for its Office Depot ‘Campaign Pack’. Office Depot supplies mixed media promotional campaigns to customers like the major banks, some of whom run promotions 10 times a year. Prior to the development of the Campaign Pack, the various items such as posters, leaflets and merchandising stands were being transported in a range of different size boxes, tubes and Jiffy bags. This led to poor ‘on time in full’ delivery, damage to items and a less than perfect recycling record.

The new pack changed all that. It consists of a large format die-cut blank which can accommodate all the media in one place thanks to an ingenious design which involves integral locking slots. All the promotional materials fit into the pack in such a way that they are completely protected from any creasing or other damage, and, of course, they all arrive at the same time!

What’s more, the finished pack is 100% recyclable. This means that not only has Office Depot reduced the amount of boxes it has been using, but can now also avoid any of this material going to landfill, reducing its carbon footprint and greatly strengthening its environmental credentials. Other benefits include better branding, faster packing and lower distribution and delivery costs. No wonder the ‘Campaign Pack’ won a gold award!

The three silver Starpacks went to DS Smith Belper for Cadbury’s Luxury Drink, DS Smith Rawcliffe for its Crane Cradle pack and DS Smith Tri-Wall for a cowling pack for Land Rover.
