ASDA staff in Edinburgh have helped to design the tin for an exclusive shortbread biscuit from Burton’s Foods. The Edinburgh Bakery shortbread, produced at Burton’s Foods’ Edinburgh factory, launched in ASDA stores in Scotland and England last month (September).

A Highland cow (along with her calf) was guest of honour at the Burton’s Foods factory, where ASDA and Burton’s Foods staff celebrated the launch and rejoiced in Scottish tradition to honour Scotland’s reputation as the home of the best shortbread in the world. They were joined by a traditional bagpipe player and a member of the Burton’s Foods team, Tommy McGovern, lead area production manager, who fully embraced the spirit dressed in full Highland attire.

Burton’s Foods worked closely with ASDA’s head office and stores to design an eye-catching tin and logo for the shortbread, launching in the run up to Christmas and Hogmanay.

Staff at ASDA’s Chesser and Leith stores gave their feedback on three different tin designs, choosing a Highland cow image as the winner. A modern heather design was second, which will also feature in Asda stores.

The luxury 32% butter shortbread comes in a 500g tin.

Caroline Eccles, Business Account Manager, Burton’s Foods, said: “We’re always looking at new ways to work with customers and consumers in order to produce the best biscuits. This project has helped us to work more closely with ASDA staff to deliver a product they can really feel proud of and get behind, knowing that they helped make it happen. We’re really pleased with the end result!”
