BIU Group (formally known as Bag It Up) has been growing since the organisation launched in 2005, but 2013 has proved to be one of the most successful years to date. The company has doubled in size, expanded its client base in Europe, the collection service in the UK and successfully re-branded itself.

BIU Group will soon have 40 team members working across various business sectors and roles, including the management team, drivers, administrators and charity liaisons officers. To cope with the expanding business, BIU has opened new depots in Halifax, Reading and Hoddesdon. In 2013 BIU Group was also awarded two ISO accreditations and is now employing a Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Management Officer to ensure all aspects of the accreditations are met. The role also involves taking the company through the OHSAS 18001 accreditation for Occupational Health and Safety.

At the start of the year, the company was putting the finishing touches to the rebrand, switching from Bag It Up to BIU Group, to better reflect both the charity and the commercial services side of the organisation. The rebranding has been a great success and instrumental in helping the company acquire new commercial partners.

BIU Group is now working with an increasing number of local authorities across the UK, helping them reach recycling targets – and waste management companies, increasing their presence in the sector. The latest on-board weighing systems installed on BIU vehicles, combined with a transport software system for route optimisation and reducing the company’s environmental impact, have been key to developing new and existing partnerships.

Wendy Yarney of BIU Group commented, “2013 has been a year of real achievement, and it’s thanks to everyone in the entire team. We have run some of our most successful campaigns to date, growing our business at the same time in many of our target markets. The commercial side of the business has grown more than anticipated. We are really looking forward to 2014 with great excitement.”

BIU Group’s charity division continues raising vital funds for partner charities; so far it has raised in excess of £5million. £2million of this was raised solely for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, a BIU Group partner since 2006. The work BIU Group does for Air Ambulance charities across the UK is well known – raising vital, life saving funds through textile recycling. BIU Group is also an affiliated member of the AAA (Air Ambulance Association) and works with eight Air Ambulance charities across the UK.

During 2013 BIU Group started to manufacture its own textile recycling banks, following the widespread success and acclaim of a prototype it developed and trialled during 2013. The banks which are all manufactured in the UK to the highest standard, are also some of the most innovative and secure available on the market, as they are proven to eliminate theft.

2014 is set to be as successful as 2013, as the company prepares to reveal a new exciting charity partnership.
