Under a rolling contract, ISD Solutions completed 25 cold store projects for Waitrose stores and e-commerce centres across the UK during 2013 and has a further fourteen projects scheduled for 2014, with more to follow. These include a mix of new stores, e-commerce facilities and store improvement projects.

The provision of high-performance temperature-controlled back of store facilities plays a key role in delivering Waitrose food quality. The scope of work includes the construction of freezer rooms with temperatures down to minus 28 degrees, meat and dairy chillers and cold storage for fruit and vegetables. The rooms are constructed in Kingspan PIR rigid thermal insulation panels, with sliding doors manufactured by ISD Solutions in Gloucester.

Sustainability is core to the design of Waitrose stores. Each cold store must be airtight and thermally efficient to ensure low energy consumption and reduced lifetime running costs. Achieving this and meeting a rigorous construction programme underpins ISD Solution’s continuing relationship with Waitrose.  To meet the Waitrose zero waste to landfill policy, all materials are fully recyclable and the insulation used has a zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP).

Andy Hudspith, retail divisional director for ISD Solutions comments: “We achieved nominated contractor status with Waitrose back in 2009 and have a relationship spanning 25 years. Delivering high performance cold storage facilities for Waitrose within project timeframes, at the same time achieving strict environmental goals remains a key focus for our design, manufacturing and installation teams.”
